HOW TO COMMISSION A SCARF
People often ask me to design a bespoke scarf for a special friend or a special event. Here are some of the questions that I have to ask in order to begin.
What sort of person is it for? I mean, is she rather formal or rather informal, does she like things which are unusual, or things which are normal?
What hair and eye colour does she have?
What colours does she like to wear?
If the scarf is to complement a special outfit, I need to see it or a good colour photograph of it.
What kind of design would be suitable - for example landscape, floral, birds, butterflies, animals, water, abstract, etc?
What size and weight of scarf would be suitable - long, large square, pashmina etc and summer weight (pongee) or slightly heavier (crepe de Chine)?
With answers to these questions I can sketch and show you some alternatives on paper. When you have chosen one I will proceed and send you a photograph of the completed scarf by e-mail for your approval. If you are not totally happy with the result I will put that scarf into stock and start again based on your comments. (I like a challenge!) The total process will take from 2 to 6 weeks depending on order backlog and holidays. The price will depend on the size and weight of silk and the processes that I use, but I will be able to tell you that at the beginning.
