Here I have tried to emulate an Indonesian wood block print on cotton, but with different colours on silk, and with some variation from the original design. Instead of using wood block, I have made a lino cut of the leaf pattern, about A5 size and fixed it to a plywood support. After colouring the background using the wet-in wet technique I printed directly onto the silk, rotating the lino block between sections to vary the pattern. By applying paint to only small sections of the block I could create the small twigs reaching upward. The effect is of luxuriant foliage on a warm sunny afternoon.
